Film Unwind Chart

World Wide Gourmet Foods uses two different machines that use film on a roll for packaging: our Matrix Pillow Bag Machine and our Syntegon Flow Wrap Machine.

The Matrix is a vertical bagging machine and the Syntegon is a horizontal bagging machine.

Metalized vs. Non-Metalized Packaging

World Wide Gourmet Foods requires non-metalized packaging for food safety reasons.

PILLOW BAGS

Matrix Form Fill Sealer with 10 Head Scale

Film is created at a packaging manufacturer and shipped to us where it is wrapped around a vertical forming tube which creates the pillow shape of the bag. The bag is then filled with product before being sealed at the top. Pillow bags can be great for small single-serve portions, larger multi-serve portions, and as inner packaging for product inside of a carton like bags of cereal in a cereal box are packaged.

The Matrix requires film on rolls with a 3″ core and a maximum outside diameter of 15″ and requires film with #2 unwind configuration. We can package pillow bags from 2″ wide to 8″ wide and 3″ long to 12″ long. Eye Marks must always be on the left-hand side of the artwork and in the middle of the left-hand side of the artwork. Seals on top and bottom are 0.5″ thick. The dimensions are determined by custom-made forming tubes and specific sizes may require capital expenditures to secure those custom tubes.

POUCH BAGS

Yilong Pouch Bagger with 10 Head Scale

Film is used to create a stand-up pouch with a built-in resealable zipper at a packaging manufacturer, then shipped to our facility where we open the pouch, fill it, then seal and date code it. Pouch bags are great for multi-serve portions where you want a resealable top.

The Pouch Bagger requires pouches that are a minimum of 5″ wide and 5″ tall with a minimum gusset of 2″. It can go as big as 8″ wide and 15″ tall with a maximum gusset of 5″.

FLOW WRAP

Syntegon Flow Wrapper

Film is created at packaging manufacturer and shipped to us where it is wrapped around a horizontal forming machine and single portions of product are conveyed into the packaging creating single serve units. Flow wrap is great for single serve portions like a cookie or a tray of caramels.

The Syntegon requires film on rolls with a 3″ core and a maximum outside diameter of 15″. It can use film with either a #1 or a #4 unwind configuration. We can flow wrap products from 1″ to 6″ wide and 1″ to 10″ long. Product height should be no greater than 3″ or additional tooling charges may apply.

With this machine, a fin seal is created, which will then overlap the rear of the artwork. You can see on this sample where that overlap will take place. Many companies use this overlapped space to put ingredients or company information.

CARTON

Cartoner

Sample Die Line

Econocorp Cartoner

Pre-printed cardboard boxes are filled with either pillow-bagged product or flow-wrapped product. Great examples of cartons are cereal boxes or boxes of granola bars.

Our Econocorp automatic cartoner takes boxes that are folded and glued on one end, then shipped flat to us where we load them with product and have the machine glue the top and bottom ends (or sides depending on box configuration) for a box that is completely sealed. This machine can handle boxes with a minimum width of 5″, height of 7″, and depth of 1.5″. It can handle boxes with a maximum width of 12″, height of 18″, and depth of 4″.

As you can see in the die line, the glue areas are clearly marked. The glue mark at the bottom of the box (the top of the artwork) is done by the printer. This box will arrive folded, with the sides open as it is filled from the side and glued by the Econocorp machine.

CADDY

Hand Packed

Pre-printed display units are called caddies when pillow, pouch, or flow-wrapped units are placed on a shelf or counter for retail sale. Caddies are typically used for single serve items like candy, cookies, or protein bars.

SHIPPER

Hand Packed

Pre-printed shippers are independent floor displays where cartons, caddies, pillows, or pouches are positioned for retail sale. Shippers are typically used for limited time promotions or product introductions.

MASTER CASE

Hand Packed

Corrugate cardboard boxes can either be pre-printed to have your company information on them or blank and labeled. Master Cases are used predominately to insure the retail products inside arrive safely and cleanly to retail shelves and customers.
